Have you ever wanted to sell everything you own and just "take off?" Travel the country's back roads, paddle down a meandering stream, experience breath-taking mountain views, walk among 100-year old trees, and just marvel at America's beauty? That is the dream that my partner, Betsy, and I decided to make a reality. This blog describes our adventure. The food we eat, people we meet, sights we see, and the enjoyment we find in traveling.

Sunrise to Moonrise

Surprising how one enjoys rising before the sun when you do not have to get up to go to work! For some reason, our mornings are getting earlier and earlier. First 7 am, then 6:30, and now 6:00. We blame getting up early on the dog, but in reality, we are eager to get on with the day. Hmm…go to the beach, take a bike ride, go for a hike, what should we do? (Sorry if I am irritating those who are at work right now.)

Yesterday morning we were up early and decided to go kayaking in the back bay of Pensacola Beach near the tip of Perdido Pass. The water was calm and the sound of loons was surreal. Flying overhead was a bald eagle and along the horizon dolphins broke the plane of the horizon. We stopped along the beach for breakfast and enjoyed the peace and serenity (except for the begging dog). Unfortunately, the wind picked up and we had to paddle back before the conditions really deteriorated.

What better way to end the day than with a sunset cocktail on the beach and watching the “super moon” rise over the campfire. What a spectacular site! Again the next morning, we were up before the sun rose and the moon set. We might have to change our routine just a little!

  1. Looks like you are off to a great start.
Starting the days in retirement is much easier to do if you don't have the troublesome need to go to work, huh !
