Have you ever wanted to sell everything you own and just "take off?" Travel the country's back roads, paddle down a meandering stream, experience breath-taking mountain views, walk among 100-year old trees, and just marvel at America's beauty? That is the dream that my partner, Betsy, and I decided to make a reality. This blog describes our adventure. The food we eat, people we meet, sights we see, and the enjoyment we find in traveling.

Rocky Mountains Here We Come

After leaving Amarillo, we had three days to spend before heading to our reservation in Colorado Springs.  We decided to stop in Trinidad, Colorado just over the border from New Mexico, and lucked into a great state park with large wooded sites.  Lake Trinidad State Park is beautiful and just what we were looking for.  After all the sightseeing in Amarillo and Austin, we were ready to chill out and do a little hiking.  This state park has miles of trails, water for fishing and paddling, and incredible views of the lake and the Spanish Peaks of the Rocky Mountains.  The town has a historic downtown filled with the typical shops, eateries, historic buildings and museums.  We were happy to rest here for a few days...Texas really did us in!  Maybe it was all the barbeque.
When parking, I asked Betsy if I could come back any more.  She said,"NO" in a very definitive voice.
Note where the back of the motor home is!
Good call Betsy...that is a pretty steep drop.  You can barely see the top of  the motorhome.
Spirit was happy.  The weather was cool (highs in the upper 40's) and she loved hiking the trails.
